Our kitchen unit may be small, but it is extremely functional.

We opted not to install a built in hob as we felt that it really restricts what can be an extremely versiltie space.

Our kitchen unit was designed to incorporate as many pre fabricated items as possible. This includes the large drawer and pull out pantry. This makes the build process much easier and smoother.

Building overhead cabinets in a van can be tricky. If you are like us, you will want the cupboards to meet a certain set of criteria in order to look as professional as possible. This includes:

  • lightweight
  • follows the curve of the van
  • must have a light on the underside to illuminate the unit
  • no visible hinges from the outside
  • no visible screws or fixings
  • doors that stay open unaided
  •  the door doesn’t open when in transit.

This list may be long, but we were unwilling to settle for anything less. To find out how to replicate our overhead cabinets for your own van click the link below.

One essential element of a kitchen is the sink and subsequent running water.

We opted to plumb not only a simple cold water system but also hot water… a luxury in a van!

Find out how we plumbed our entire van and all the essential products required to build a functional kitchen plumbing system below.

Our van exclusively uses electricity (no gas). Therefore our fridge and hob are completely are reliant on electricity. This was done for several reasons, one of which being safety. We have much more peace of mind knowing we are not carrying gas. Furthermore, it helps avoid the hassle of searching for a location to replenish gas supplies!

For this reason, we have got a fairly large (but reasonably priced) electric setup. This includes 300Ah of lithium batteries, 370W of Solar, and much more.

Learn all about our electrical setup and how to build your own below.
