Despite being the capital of Spain, Madrid was arguably the best (and easiest) city to park overnight in and feel safe leaving your van.
We were pleasantly surprised by the spot we got. No, it was not scenic, and it wasn’t that central, but it was undeniably convenient! It is located a short walk from the La Almundena Metro Station. A “Tourist ticket” 1-day metro card costs €8.40, and offers unlimited access to the metro for a day. The metro is typically open from 6 am-2 am .
This place to park overnight in Madrid is essentially just an asphalte car park. It is extremely flat, and perfect for a great night sleep. Unfortunatley, you may find yourself sharing the carpark with young people who like to blast music from their cars at the weekend. This occurred when we were there, but didn’t last long.
One thing to note, although this spot is perfect for the majority of the time, it is home to a market that takes over the entirety of the space on a Sunday.
Unfortunately, this spot doesn’t have any facilities and offers no cover to do a “nature wee” so you must be fully self-contained to really enjoy this spot.
