An Honest Review of the Rides at The Strat, Las Vegas

The Strat is the home of adrenaline-inducing rides in Las Vegas. With 4 blood-pumping rides to choose from, visiting The Strat is a no-brainer for anyone looking to get their pulse racing.

Unfortunately, these rides are NOT cheap. If you are hoping to go on all of the rides, it will set you back a minimum of a whopping $173.94

Admission to the SkyPod + 1 ride (excl. the SkyJump) is $29. Admission to the SkyPod + 3 ride (excl. the SkyJump) is $39, this will allow you to try all the rides on the roof. If you want unlimited ride passes, it costs $49 (excl. SkyJump). The SkyJump is priced from $139.99 – $350. Yikes!

So, what rides are you going to go on?

InsanityInsanity

A photo of the ride Insanity in full motion. It is dangling over the side of the Strat with a view of the Vegas skyline in the background.

It is no surprise that this ride is called Insanity, many people think you would have to be insane to ride it. Suspended 900 ft over the side of The Strat, peering down at the Las Vegas strip, with just a lap bar holding you in, it can feel like there is little protecting you from the long drop below. The ride proceeds to spin and tilt downwards further adding to the experience.

Although this ride may look daunting once you get over the initial fear it becomes somewhat mundane. It does provide a fantastic view, however, that is really it. Contrary to its name, Insanity is arguably the tamest ride at The Strat, but still worth a ride, especially if you like the feeling of butterflies in your stomach!

X-Scream

X-Scream is a ride like no other. Suspended over the edge of The Strat, it is essentially a floating rollercoaster. You will plummet at speed into the abyss before you, then suddenly stop and roll back. Sure, it may be repetitive, but every time you supposedly run out of track it certainly does get your adrenaline pumping.

Of the 3 rooftop attractions (excluding the SkyJump) this is probably the most thrilling. However, perhaps only if you have a front-row seat.

Note: you can’t queue separately for a front-row seat. You will be forced to take whatever seat is available. For the best chance at getting a front-row seat, go during the day when the SkyPod is the quietest.

Big Shot

Big Shot is the highest ride in the US, possibly even the world. At its peak height, you will be soaring 1081ft above the ground before dropping down to a measly 921ft at a staggering 45 mph.

This ride is reasonably thrilling, however, it lacks the titillation of being suspended over the side of the building, which I believe is the real draw of the rides on the top of The Strat, Las Vegas. So, if you are willing to sacrifice that tingling sensation of impending doom then this is the ride for you.

SkyJump

Experience the rush of wind in your hair as you descend 855ft via essentially a vertical zipline. This thrill-seeking ride will get your pulse racing as you fly to the ground at speeds of up to 40mph.

Unfortunately, the SkyJump is unique in that it is not included in the price of the SkyPod + 1 ride admission price. This additional extra has a particularly hefty price tag. Prices are listed below:

  • SkyJump only – $139
  • SkyJump + Wristcam – $174
  • SkyJump + Photo – $154
  • Unlimited SkyJumps – $350

Hotel guests and Nevada residents are eligible for a discount.

Note: Unfortunately, The Strat has a policy that states you are not allowed to bring your own camera on the ride, even if they are secured to you – classic Las Vegas, anything to get you to spend more money!

We’ll leave it up to you to decide if the 17 seconds of descent is worth the mammoth price tag!

Conclusion

With 4 top-notch rides to choose from, it’s no surprise that The Strat attracts 1000’s of thrill-seekers every year. With each ride offering a unique experience it can be hard to choose what one to go on, especially if you buy a ticket that only allows you on one ride.

So, what rides are worth going on?

For thrill-seekers:

  • The SkyJump
  • X-Scream

For the view:

  • Big Shot
  • Insanity

If we could only pick one ride to go on:

  • X-Scream
